The world’s orangutan population is dwindling. Native to only two islands — Sumatra and Borneo — orangutans are threatened by deforestation, fire and climate change. In 2010, up to 260 000 km2 of Borneo which was suitable habitat for orang utan is facing 18–24% reduction since the 1950s.
For orangutan, climate change increases habitat losses as the result of fire, affects the productivity and predictability of flowering and fruiting in important food trees, alters the risk of diseases affecting trees, pollinators and orangutans, affects the distribution of invasive plants in orangutan habitat, and changes of land use in and adjacent to their habitats.
Through this virtual ecotrip, we will take you to get to know more about these gentle apes in their conservation habitat through our exclusive pre-recorded videos in Central Borneo.
